Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway: 568-km long, six-lane greenfield expressway project called the Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway has been approved by the Centre, announced Bihar road construction minister Nitin Nabin on Saturday. Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway is a key infrastructure initiative that will improve Bihar's connectivity with Delhi and the Northeast. At present, there is no direct road connecting Gorakhpur and Siliguri. So, it took around 15 hours to complete this journey. However, with the construction of this road, the 15-hour journey can be completed in just 6 hours.

Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway Routes

Gorakhpur-Siliguri high-speed expressway will pass through 313 villages of 39 blocks in eight districts of Bihar, including: West Champaran, East Champaran, Sheohar, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria and Kishanganj. A total of 417 km of the expressway will be within Bihar. Several bridges will be constructed over major rivers, including the Gandak, Bagmati and Kosi, as part of the project.

Minister Nabin informed the state government had requested the Centre to include the district headquarters of Bettiah, Motihari, Darbhanga and Madhubani in the project. In response, the NHAI has agreed to develop "spur connectivity" to these cities.

Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway Cost

Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expresswayproject is estimated to cost Rs 38,645 crore with Bihar contributing Rs 27,552 crore. The expressway is designed for speeds of up to 120 kmph.

"Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway will not only expand the national highway network but also boost trade, tourism and industrial development in Bihar,” minister Nabin called it a "historic achievement", as quoted by a TOI report.

Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway To Connect THESE Villages

Land of a total of 111 villages of Gorakhpur, Kushinagar and Deoria districts of Uttar Pradesh has been acquired, which includes 14 villages of Chauri-Chaura tehsil, 19 villages of Hata tehsil of Kushinagar, 42 villages of Tamkuhiraj tehsil and 13 villages of Kasya tehsil. Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway will be a parallel road connected to the Bareilly-Gorakhpur Expressway.

Expressways In Bihar

The construction work of four expressways is going to start soon in Bihar. In this, Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway (568 km), Raxaul-Haldia Expressway (650 km Raxaul-Haldia Expressway), Purvanchal Expressway (345 km from Buxar to Bhagalpur via Patna) and Patna-Purnia Expressway (215 km Patna-Purnia Express) will be developed to make travel easier.
