Green Field Expressway: A greenfield expressway will be constructed from Beawar to Bharatpur (Beawar-Bharatpur Expressway) in Rajasthan. The Rajasthan government had announced the ambitious project in the budget 2024.
Now after the approval of the DPR of the expressway, the survey work has started. The National Highway Authority of India has been given 18 months to complete the survey. The total length of this greenfield expressway is 342 km. The aim of this project is to facilitate traffic between the two cities and reduce travel time. For this, 3175 hectares of land will be acquired.
The fund will be available after the survey for the construction of the expressway from Beawar to Bharatpur. After this the road construction work will start. It is worth noting that in the state budget last year, the construction of nine greenfield expressways was announced in Rajasthan, which also included the Beawar-Bharatpur Expressway. In this year's budget, many announcements have been made regarding construction of state highways, bypass roads, flyovers, elevated roads, ROB, RUB, bridge construction, repair and upgradation of roads.
Route of the road project
This expressway will start from NH-58 and will be built till NH-21 of Bharatpur. It will go to Bharatpur via Gulabpura, Kekri, Todaraisingh, Uniara, Tonk, Niwai. Routes will be included in the new highway where there is no connectivity till now. It is currently taking 7-8 hours to cover a distance of 370 km from Beawar to Bharatpur. After the construction of the new expressway, this time taken in the journey will be reduced. The green field expressway will be taken out of the cities. All its routes will be interconnected. By being built between less population and empty lands, there will be less turns in it so that the speed of the vehicles remains maintained.
What is Greenfield Expressway?
Greenfield Expressways, as the name suggests, are built through green fields or farms. Land acquisition is easy here, the land is flat and due to being a little far from the city, there is less congestion. Therefore, it is easy to build these expressways and then operate vehicles at high speed here. Greenfield Expressways are rarely built through cities, so they have very few turns and bends. This reduces the distance from one point to another. Another identity of Greenfield Expressways is that they are built where there has never been a road before.
What are differences between Greenfield Expressways and normal Expressways?
The difference between Greenfield Expressways and normal Expressways is their location. A Greenfield Expressways is built through a forest or green reserve areas. They are also built far away from cities and through fields and forest.
