Five people were killed and 17 others sustained severe injuries when a private bus carrying pilgrims plunged into a 35-foot-deep gorge in Gujarat's Dang district early Sunday morning, police said. The accident occurred at around 4:15 am near the Saputara hill station when the driver lost control. 

Superintendent of Police SG Patil stated that after the driver lost control, the bus crashed into the barrier and fell into the gorge. The senior official added that the deceased included two women and three men, while the injured were rushed to a civil hospital in Ahwa. Some other passengers suffered minor injuries.

The bus was carrying 48 pilgrims from Trimbakeshwar in Maharashtra to Dwarka in Gujarat. The passengers hailed from Madhya Pradesh's Guna, Shivpuri and Ashok Nagar districts. Rescue operations were nearly complete, officials said.

In a separate incident, seven people died and 15 were seriously injured after a luxury bus fell into a 200-foot gorge on the Nashik-Gujarat Highway in Maharashtra at around 5:30 am on Sunday.

Meanwhile, five Nepalese nationals died in a road accident on Saturday while returning from Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj. Their SUV overturned in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district while trying to avoid a biker performing stunts. 

Deputy Superintendent of Police Vineeta Sinha said the vehicle was speeding when the driver lost control. The victims visited Prayagraj from Nepal to take a holy dip at Triveni Sangam.
