Two tourists hailing from Gujarat were electrocuted while staying in hotel rooms in Daman, Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli. Shrikant Vaghela, a resident of Nadiad, aged 35, along with his 6-year-old son Sheenon, lost their lives in the bathroom of a local hotel on Saturday. Vishal Patel, the in-charge of the city police station, disclosed that the hotel has been cordoned off as part of the ongoing investigation.
The incident occurred between 4:00 PM and 4:30 PM when the man, his wife, and their child experienced electric shocks in room 301. Upon hearing the commotion, people rushed in to switch off the power supply, but both the man and the boy had already succumbed to the injuries.
A case has been filed under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 285 (negligence) and 304 (A) (death by negligence), as per the police.
In a bid to prevent such incidents in the future, District Magistrate Saurabh Mishra issued an order mandating hotels and guest houses in Daman to undergo an electric safety audit within seven days.
