A 47-year-old man, who was arrested three days ago for allegedly poisoning his two minor sons at their house in Rajkot's Gondal, died by suicide inside the Gondal sub-jail on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.

The incident took place hours after the police handed over his custody to jail officials.

Rajesh Makwana, who was arrested for allegedly murdering his sons Rohit (13) and Haresh (3), was taken into jail on Monday evening.

Speaking to The Indian Express, police inspector Jaydev Desai, in charge of the ‘B’ Division police station in Gondal town said, "The matter came to light when someone visited the jail toilet on Tuesday morning.”

Gondal sub-jail is under the jurisdiction of Gondal town's newly recognised 'B' Division police. Makwana, a casual labourer, was discovered dead in barrack No 1 in yard No 1 of the sub-jail at 6.45 AM on Tuesday, according to police.

Makwana was detained on Sunday by 'B' Division police after an inquiry revealed that he poisoned his two sons late Friday night. On Saturday, the two boys died while being treated for diarrhoea and vomiting at Rajkot Civil Hospital.
