Gujarat Rains: Around 30 villages in Gujarat's Junagadh district were cut off as roads leading to them got inundated following incessant rains, officials said. This came as heavy rains continued to lash several parts of the state on Tuesday. According to the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), Junagadh's Vanthali taluka recorded 361 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ended Tuesday morning.

As many as 10 talukas in the Sarashtra and southern regions of Gujarat received over 200 mm of rainfall in the 24-hour period, with the downpour leading to flooding in low-lying areas, the officials said. "Nearly 30 villages in Junagadh district were cut off as roads connecting them have gone under water following heavy rains," a senior official was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

Several districts in Gujarat are likely to continue witnessing downpours on Wednesday (July 3), when very heavy rains are expected in Surat, Navsari and Valsad districts, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The state is experiencing a wet spell due to two cyclonic circulations over the north and south of the state, the IMD said.
Gujarat Rains: Several Districts Under 'Red Alert'
The IMD issued a 'red alert' for several districts in the state on Tuesday, predicting extremely heavy rain in Surat, Navsari, and Valsad in south Gujarat, as well as Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh, Dwarka, and Kutch in the Saurashtra-Kutch region.
During three days of continuous rains, many roads across the state have been damaged. On Sunday, a massive sinkhole resembling a meteor crater formed when a portion of a road caved in during heavy rainfall at Shela in Ahmedabad Smart City. A video on social media shows the road caving in with water flowing into the large cavity.
