Guru Nanak Jayanti School Holiday: Schools across the country will remain closed in observance of Guru Nanak Gurpurab, a gazetted holiday marking the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism. Recognized as one of the most sacred festivals in Sikhism, the day is celebrated with devotion and public observances. The holiday provides students and their families the opportunity to participate in religious gatherings, prayers, and community services, honoring Guru Nanak’s teachings and legacy.

Punjab schools will observe a two-day closure, with November 15 dedicated to Guru Nanak Jayanti, celebrating the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, the revered founder of Sikhism. Additionally, on November 16, schools will remain closed in honor of the martyrdom day of Kartar Singh Sarabha, the young revolutionary leader who served as the president of the Ghadar Party in America.

Odisha schools will be closed on November 15 in observance of Rahas Purnima, a traditional festival celebrating the full moon and marking significant cultural and religious festivities in the state.

Guru Nanak Jayanti 2024: Schools to Remain Closed in These States

In November 2024, students across India enjoy a variety of school holidays marking significant cultural and religious events, bridging the festive spirit with the academic season's approach. Following Diwali at the end of October, schools in many states remain closed for Govardhan Puja and Bhai Dooj, extending celebrations into early November. As schools reopen on November 4, additional holidays are scheduled for key festivals like Chhat Puja, Guru Nanak Jayanti, and Karthik Purnima, allowing students to participate in these cultural observances. The month also honours Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji’s Martyrdom Day, emphasizing values of bravery and faith.

These states will have schools closed on November 15, 2024.  Along with schools, banks will also remain closed on November 15 to observe Guru Nanak Jayanti.
