Guru Nanak Jayanti: Several banks, schools, and both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will be closed on November 15, Friday, due to the Guru Nanak Jayanti and Karthika Purnima. The day is widely celebrated in the country to honour Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism.

The festival is celebrated to honour Guru Nanak's teachings of equality, compassion, and spiritual enlightenment. It is observed on the full moon day (Purnima) of Kartik Month. Sikhs gather for langar, kirtans, and prayers. The Guru Granth Sahib, Sikhism's holy scripture, is reverently read. The festival promotes unity, service, and self-reflection. Devotees visit gurudwaras, offer prayers, and engage in seva. Guru Nanak's message of love, humility, and spiritual growth resonates globally, inspiring humanity to strive for a harmonious and enlightened world. This year, Guru Nanak Jayanti will be observed on November 15, 2024.

Banks Closed On November 15

According to the holiday list of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), banks will remain closed in several states on November 15. Among the key states are Maharashtra, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Jharkhand, and Mizoram. The banks in Karnataka will be closed on November 18 due to Kanakadasa Jayanti and in Meghalaya on November 23 for Seng Kutsnem.

Amid the bank branches scheduled to be closed, both the online and mobile services of the bank will be available for the transactions. 

What About Schools?

The schools across the country will be closed on November 15 in observance of Guru Nanak Jayanti. States such as Punjab will also have one additional holiday on November 16 to commemorate Kartar Singh Sarabha’s martyrdom.

The schools in Odisha will also remain closed on November 15 due to Rahas Purnima.

Stock Market Investors, Traders To Enjoy Long Weekend

The investors and traders will enjoy a long weekend as the NSE and BSE suspend trading on November 15. It will be resumed on November 18, Friday.
