In a bid to fast-track the metro project, the Gurugram Metro Rail Limited has announced that the tender process for the second phase of the ongoing Gurugram Metro project might be floated by the end of December this year. Earlier, the tender of the second phase was delayed because the penultimate station on the line, located near the Shankar Chowk could not be finalised. However, the issue was resolved recently. 

According to the Hindustan Times, quoting a senior official, the structural design of the 13 stations in Phase II in Old Gurugram was being finalised after consultation with a design engineer, post which the estimated cost of the construction was determined.

“The metro alignment in phase two will be elevated and the tender will be floated by end of December. If things go as planned, the work will be allotted by March next year. We are working with all other agencies to ensure utilities are shifted on priority so that project contractors can carry out the work. The estimated cost has not been decided yet,” he added.

The senior official further said that to fast-track the process of the construction of the metro, new land acquisition policy has to be put in place which handles the direct negotiations between land owners and a committee headed by the deputy commissioner.

Besides these, a station is also proposed to be built near the Gurugram railway station to make it more accessible for the general public. Phase II will also be connected with the Rapid Metro and the Namo Bharat Rail through an interchange station.

GMRL UPDATE: Phase I

Work for the first phase of the Gurgaon Metro started from the Millennium City Centre to Sector 9 on September 3. Casting yard work for phase one is being set u,p and the work might start by December 15.
