In a chilling incident, a five-year-old boy died after falling from the balcony of a high-rise building in Gurugram's Sector 62, the police said on Sunday.

The tragic incident took place at around 5:30 pm at the Pioneer Presidia Society on Saturday. Providing information about the incident, the police said that the child, identified as Rudra Tej Singh, was playing on the ground of the society.

After playing, he returned home on the 22nd floor of the building with a domestic help.

News agency PTI reported that the child's father, Prakash Chandra, a builder, and his mother, a doctor, were not at home when he returned to the apartment.

The police officials said that the boy got out of the lift and ran into the flat. The main door is locked from the inside. The domestic help failed to enter the house and remained outside.

As the child was alone at home, he went to the balcony of the flat and climbed onto a clothes bar to make a call for help.

In a bid to get someone's attention, he lost his balance and fell from the balcony, the police added. The residents of the society rushed the child to a nearby private hospital, Maringo Asia Hospital. The doctors examined him, but he had died by then.

The police have registered the case of the incident. Post-mortem of the body was conducted, after which it was handed over to the family.
