Gurugram's Sector 56 has been proposed to be made a multi-modal transit corridor by altering the alignment of the proposed Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS).
The proposal by the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has been made as the sector is a centre of multiple existing and planned rail lines, the official said.
The proposal was made by GMDA officials during a meeting with the Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL), National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP), and Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA).
What will change?
The central change proposed by the GMRL is to develop Sector 56, instead of Sector 54, as a station on the proposed RRTS corridor. The rerouting is proposed with the intent to include a wider section of commuters into the system.
Why is Sector 56 important?
Sector 56 of Gurugram has been proposed to be an integration point of RRTS to Rapid Metro, instead of Sector 54, because of its proximity to key business and commercial hubs, railway station and other highly-visited areas.
With RRTS and Rapid Metro integration and the future railway line addition, Sector 56 will be a key transit hub that will boost connectivity and provide seamless travel benefits to the people.
The RRTS routing via Sector 56 will connect the proposed Panchgaon metro and Sector 5 metro line.
The GMDA, on the other hand, sought to build the RRTS station at Gwal Pahari village on the Faridabad route as it would give a real estate boost in the area.
During the meeting, another proposal was put forward by the GMRL to develop Rajiv Chowk as the origination point of RRTS to maximise the coverage of the city.
The proposals have been made to serve maximum commuters and develop the projects in such a way that most it benefits most of the people in the city and adjoining areas.
