'Will Also Kill Sugar Daddy': Guwahati Man Reveals Why He Beheaded Wife, Chopped Off Her Fingers

In the latest updates in the Guwahati woman murder case, the accused husband said that he has “no regrets” about killing his wife. The accused husband, identified as Ramanujan Goswami, claimed that he would kill his wife’s sugar daddy if he came out of jail. The Guwahati resident allegedly killed his wife, Riya Takukdar, and kept her severed head inside the refrigerator before absconding. The husband surrendered and confessed to the police on Sunday.

What did the accused husband say?

During the interrogation the Guwahati man alleged that his wife, Riya, was involved in an affair and the two had frequent arguments about the same. One of the police officials claimed that the couple had an argument on the night of September 3, which escalated to the extent that Goswami lost his temper.

Following this, he took a “dao” (machete) and severed his wife’s head and chopped off her fingers. “We are verifying the facts as claimed by the husband. Detailed interrogation is yet to be done. We are examining the circumstances leading to the crime. Further details can be shared after thorough investigation," the officer said. “No regrets and no apologies. If I come out, then I shall kill the Sugar Daddy," the accused said.

Reports said that the couple tied knots around six months ago and shifted to the neighbourhood. The victim worked at a boutique in the AC Market area of Fancy Bazar, while Goswami works as a cab driver. She was reportedly living without her parents and is survived by her only brother.

How did the matter come to light?

The matter came to light after the neighbours complained about a foul smell from the couple’s house. Following this, the local police were informed about it. As they reached the spot, the team had broken down the lock and discovered the woman’s decomposed body lying on the floor.

Upon initiating a search in the house, the team found the severed head of the woman inside a polythene bag in the refrigerator. Locals alleged that the two were not spotted in the area for the past few days. The couple was last spotted on Friday.

The woman’s severed body was sent for the postmortem to the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital. Investigations into the case are underway.
