Guwahati Murder Case: In the latest updates in the Guwahati murder case, the prime accused, Ramanuj Goswami, allegedly died after jumping from a moving police vehicle on Monday morning. Police arrested the accused for allegedly killing his wife and severing her head in Assam’s Guwahati weeks ago.

The incident occurred during the early hours of Monday, when the police escorted the accused back to Hatigaon Police Station after medical examinations at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

The Hatigaon police alleged that the Goswami attacked the police officials inside the vehicle and allegedly jumped off the van in the Narakasur Pahar area. Following this, the accused suffered serious injuries on his body. The cops then shifted Goswami to the GMCH, where doctors declared him dead.

Goswami had been accused of allegedly killing his wife, severing her head and chopping off fingers in their rented house in Guwahati’s Basisthapur area. The victim has been identified as Riya Talukdar and was found dead inside the house.

What’s the case

Upon questioning, the Guwahati man alleged that his wife, Riya, was involved in an affair and the two had frequent arguments about the same. One of the police officials claimed that the couple had an argument on the night of September 3, which escalated to the extent that Goswami lost his temper.

Following this, he took a “dao” (machete) and severed his wife’s head and chopped off her fingers. “We are verifying the facts as claimed by the husband. Detailed interrogation is yet to be done. We are examining the circumstances leading to the crime. Further details can be shared after thorough investigation," the officer said. “No regrets and no apologies. If I come out, then I shall kill the Sugar Daddy," the accused said.

Reports said that the couple tied knots around six months ago and shifted to the neighbourhood. The victim worked at a boutique in the AC Market area of Fancy Bazar, while Goswami works as a cab driver. She was reportedly living without her parents and is survived by her only brother.
