Haldwani Violence: Tensions continue to simmer in Haldwani after massive violence broke out during an anti-encroachment campaign in Banbhoolpura district on Thursday, resulting in at least six fatalities and over 200 people sustained injuries. Following deadly clashes, a curfew has been imposed and shoot-at-sight orders have been issued, officials said.
In the latest development over Haldwani violence, PN Meena, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Nanital, said police have registered a case against 19 named and 5,000 unidentified people. "Police have registered a case against 19 named and 5,000 unidentified people and have started arresting them. Several people have been taken into custody and miscreants are being identified and searched for them," SSP Meena said as quoted by news agency ANI.

- The demonstrators burned down a police station and pelted stones at the district administration team, injuring several police officers and municipal employees engaged in the demolition process.
- A District Magistrate of Nainital Vandana Singh on Friday held a press conference and assured that all the culprits will get strict action. Calling the tragedy unfortunate, DM Singh said the attacks were pre-planned.
- "The police station has been completely damaged by the mob...This is an unfortunate incident. The accused will be identified and strict action will be taken. This (incident) was not communal. I request everybody to not make it communal or sensitive. Any particular community did not retaliate...This was an effort to challenge the state machinery, state govt and the law and order situation...A briefing will be done again in the evening..." Singh added.
- Earlier, a DGP Abhinav Kumar said that the stringent National Security Act (NSA) would be taken against those who attacked police personnel and indulged in arson and vandalism. This comes after DGP, along with AGP (law and order) AP Anshuman, visited the violence-hit town in Nainital district to assess the situation.
- "Action under the NSA will be taken against unruly elements who attacked police personnel, and indulged in arson and vandalism at the police station in Banbhoolpura," he said, as quoted by PTI.
- Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami chaired a high-level meeting with officials and ordered strict action against the rioters and miscreants involved in the violence. Security has been heightened in the violence-hit area.
