Halloween 2024: Delhi, known for its vibrancy and the stories of kings and queens, and historical monuments, also harbours some spooky places that will send shivers down your spine. These locations, which range from ghostly forts to spooky wilderness, provide a singular fusion of the historic, the mystical, and the plain horrific.
And what's the best time to explore these mystical places than Halloween? Halloween will also be celebrated on October 31 this year. The eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows' Day is when the eerie yearly celebration is observed.
Here is a list of the top five creepiest places in Delhi to visit this Halloween. Ready for some thrills?
Lothian Cemetery
This is one of the most well-known Delhi haunted spots, with a few eyewitness stories from persons who have seen "it". While there are several legends that circulate, the prospect of encountering a British soldier's ghost (the headless one who walks with his head in his hand) is enough to raise shivers. The place is located in Lothian Road near Kashmiri Gate, Old Delhi.
Sanjay Van
In Delhi, Sanjay Van has several areas that are quite green. This 10-kilometre stretch of lush greenery is dotted with several Qila Rai Pithora cemeteries and bones. While it's frightening enough to see tombs and the remnants of a fort now covered in creepers, visitors have reported hearing children's cries, seeing a lonely lady who vanishes out of thin air, and being pushed by an unseen force while wandering around Sanjay Van!
Bhuli Bhatiyari Ka Mahal
This 14th-century structure is rarely visited and might appear eerie even during the day. People who have admitted to hearing weird noises, including men's cries, have confirmed the rumour that Bhuli Bhatiyari ka Mahal is haunted. To prevent anyone from accessing the complex after nightfall, police are often positioned at the entrance.
Agrasen Ki Baoli
Agrasen ki Baoli is a 103-step stepwell in the heart of Delhi that is a magnificent work of architecture. The numerous stories that have captured the attention of many people and a stepwell this size with such exquisite construction are wonders in and of themselves. According to legend, individuals are drawn to the well's black water, which ultimately causes them to drown.
Delhi Cantonment
If you enjoy pursuing ghosts from movies, Delhi Cantonment is a must. This abandoned location, which becomes even more bleak in the dark, is one of Delhi's most famous haunted sites. According to the reports, a woman wearing white frequently calls out to drivers on the stretch seeking a ride. She then follows those who refuse to give her a lift, running at speeds equal to or greater than their vehicles! Those who agree to give her a lift never see her again. What adds to the chill aspect of these incidents is the frequency with which they are recounted. Locals think the spirit belongs to a woman hitchhiker who died while waiting for rescue.
