Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation marked the end of the Cockroach Janta Party's (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar. While the Central government has taken a slew of stringent measures against the NEET paper leak, including setting up fast-track courts and bringing amendments to already existing laws, the loss of parents whose children died by suicide remains irreparable.
Neelum Chaturvedi, mother of NEET aspirant Akanksha who died by suicide in Maharashtra's Nagpur, has lamented that what could Pradhan's resignation achieve as her daughter won't return.
She demanded that the culprits of the paper leak must be hanged. "Hang the paper leak culprits," she demanded.
Akanksha took the extreme step on May 20, weeks after the medical entrance exam was cancelled. Speaking to the media on Saturday, Neelam extended support to the students' movement; however, she added that accountability does not end with resignation.
"We are not satisfied with Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation. We have extended our support to the students' protest. Those involved in the paper leak should be sentenced to death," she added.
'Don't Have Courage To Take Re-NEET': Akanksha wrote in suicide note
Akanksha aka Sneha belonged to Madhya Pradesh's Mauganj district. According to information, her father, Krishna Kumar Chaturvedi, is a farmer who owns approximately 4.5 acres of land in the village of Magania in Mauganj.
The family faced financial hardship and so took a loan of Rs 3 lakh using a Kisan Credit Card (KCC). Her father also borrowed money from some relatives.
After her suicide, Congress leader and Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi had termed it a result of a corrupt, broken system.
She had left behind a suicide note saying she didn't dare to take NEET again. She had written, "Mom and Dad, you had faith in me that my daughter would study and become a doctor, but I don't dare to take NEET again. I was getting good marks in the previous NEET exams, but what guarantee is there that I'll do well again? Sorry, Mom and Dad, I've ruined everything for both of you."
