Haryana Assembly Polls: As several rounds of counting end in Haryana, it is likely, according to the numbers, that the Grand Old Party, despite confidence, failed to attain a majority in the state. The BJP can be seen comfortably attaining majority, and it is likely that the party will continue to rule the state for the third term. Meanwhile, responding to the developments, Congress leader Kumari Selja has called the result disappointing and has urged the party high command to assess the reasons behind it.

The senior party leader said that she is pained at the disappointment of the workers of the party and that the party high command should work out a plan to help revive the party in the state. She has also asked to identify those responsible for such results.

"It will not be business as usual, Cong should identify those who negated efforts to bring party to power after 10 years," she said, as quoted by news agency PTI.

The ruling BJP has won 31 seats while the Congress secured victory in 30 assembly segments out of a total 90 constituencies in Haryana, according to the results declared by the Election Commission. Two independents have also won. The BJP was leading in 18 seats and the Congress in 6. The Indian National Lok Dal was leading in two constituencies, and one independent candidate was also leading, the EC figures at 5 pm showed.

The BJP is poised to form its third successive government in Haryana. The BJP is set for hat-trick and will create electoral history in the state. The Congress, which was seen to be having advantage of anti-incumbency and was seen to be ahead in the perception battle, fumbled again and could not pull enough weight to dislodge the BJP, which proved that it continues to have support of a rainbow of caste groups in the state.

BJP leaders said that it was "pro-incumbency" for their government in Haryana based on the work it had done in the past 10 years.

The Congress improved its vote share in Haryana compared to the last assembly elections, but so did the BJP. Both parties have around 39 per cent votes.
