Hathras Stampede News: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha on Friday visited Hathras to meet the families of those killed in the stampede earlier this week that claimed the lives of at least 121 people. Among the deceased were mostly women. The Congress leader first stopped at Pilakhna village in Aligarh to meet some of the victims’ families.

After meeting the families of stampede victims, Rahul Gandhi said that he did not want to politicise the issue and demanded more compensation for the families of those who had died in the stampede.

"It is a sad incident. Several people have died. I don't want to say this from a political prism but there have been deficiencies on the part of the administration and the important thing is that maximum compensation should be given as they are poor families. I request UP CM Yogi Adityanath to provide compensation open-heartedly. If there is a delay in the compensation, it will not benefit anyone. I had a personal conversation with the family members of the deceased and they told me that there was no police arrangement. They are in shock and I just wanted to understand their situation,” Gandhi was quoted as saying by ANI.

The devastating incident that claimed the lives of several people took place at a satsang in Fulrai village, Sikandrarau area of Hathras district. The Uttar Pradesh Police on Thursday conducted a search operation at Ram Kutir Charitable Trust in Mainpuri for self-styled godman ‘Bhole Baba’ who conducted satsang in Hathras and went missing following the stampede.
