Himachal Rain Fury: Landslide Blocks Chamba-Pathankot Highway, Vehicles Buried As IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alert

Relentless rainfall has severely disrupted normal life across Himachal Pradesh, washing away parts of Chamba and surrounding areas. A massive landslide near Parel has blocked the Chamba-Pathankot National Highway (NH-154A), while falling debris in Sarol, Parel, and Tadoli has buried at least 15 vehicles, causing extensive property damage.

In the Obadi region, a hillside suddenly cracked, sending massive boulders and debris crashing onto a residential house. The people inside panicked as they ran for their lives. Fortunately, they managed to escape, thwarting a major tragedy.

Rain has Affected Sultanpur, Sarol and adjoining areas

In the Sultanpur region, several shops and houses were flooded with debris and water, forcing residents to stay up throughout the night. At present, the affected people are demanding the safe removal of vehicles buried under the debris and the immediate reopening of the national highway. A team of Panchayat representatives visited the affected areas of Sarol and other areas to assess the damage in the areas.

Chamba's Additional Deputy Commissioner, Amit Mehra, said that administrative teams and related departments have been directed to the field immediately upon receiving information about rain damage. Instructions have been given to restore the Chamba-Pathankot National Highway as soon as possible on a priority basis. The situation is being closely monitored.

The torrential rainfall has caused significant damage to people, with multiple vehicles submerged and debris falling into homes. No administration representatives had arrived at the scene as of early morning. The affected people must be provided immediate relief and compensation.

What Did The IMD Say?

The Indian Meteorological Department has issued 'Orange' and 'Yellow' alerts for heavy rainfall in five districts of Himachal Pradesh today (Tuesday, July 28). According to the department, an 'Orange' alert for heavy rain has been issued for Bilaspur and Sirmaur districts; heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at one or two locations in these districts. Additionally, a 'Yellow' alert for heavy rain has been issued for Mandi, Shimla, and Solan districts. Heavy rainfall is likely at a few places in these districts. The lowest minimum and highest maximum temperatures recorded across Himachal Pradesh are 12.8°C and 34.6°C.
