Himachal Pradesh Weather: Heavy rainfall lashed parts of Himachal Pradesh, triggering landslides at several places. One of the landslides hit the Dharmshala-Chataro-Gaggal road, which provides connectivity to the airport. Due to the landslide near Hanuman temple at Midway, traffic on the route came to a halt.
The travellers and residents are forced to take the alternative route to move ahead. Another landslide hit the stretch of Tauni-Hatkoti road in the Upper Shimla, partially damaging it.
Apart from landslides, waterlogging was also reported at he Shahid Inder Singh Middle School in Pandoh, which caused inconvenience for students. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert of heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated parts of the state on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, and a yellow warning for heavy rains in isolated areas on Tuesday.
Among areas that received the highest rainfall were Nahan (84.7 mm), followed by Pandoh at 35 mm, Slapper at 26.3 mm, Sarahan at 20.5 mm, Poanta Sahib at 19.8 mm, Joginder Nagar at 19 mm, Pachhad at 17.2 mm, Rampur at 15.6 mm, and Gohar at 15 mm.
Similarly, thunderstorms were witnessed in Sundernagar, Shimla, and Kangra. The MeT centre has cautioned that heavy rains in the mid and lower hills can trigger landslides and mudslides in vulnerable areas while also causing waterlogging in low-lying areas, and partial damage to vulnerable structures, besides skidding of vehicles due to slippery roads and low visibility.

As monsoon approaches, the state government has also intensified its efforts to minimise potential losses from disasters triggered by rain. Earlier on June 18, a high-level meeting was held by the Chief Secretary of Himachal Pradesh Prabodh Saxena. Saxena held a meeting with district-level officials, central government agencies, and various departments to review preparedness.
