Torrential rain has unleashed havoc in Himachal Pradesh as several incidents of disaster were recorded recently. Three incidents of cloudburst were recorded on Friday, simultaneously in Lahaul-Spiti. A cloudburst near Tindi in the Udaipur sub-division caused chaos in the Jungle Camp, Yangla, and Jispa areas.
The strategically important Manali-Leh highway was closed for hours after a cloudburst in the Mar Shen Nala area of Jispa. Several tourists took shelter in temporary camps near Jispa and Darcha. The Atal Tunnel near Dhundi, Rohtang, was also blocked for large vehicles due to landslides, with over 300 trucks stuck for three days carrying goods to Leh-Ladakh.

Himachal Pradesh Weather Today: Yellow In Many Places
The India Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain warning in isolated locations, while light to moderate rainfall is expected in the majority of the districts. According to the Himachal Pradesh Meteorological Centre, heavy rainfall is expected to be recorded in several districts of the state on Saturday, prompting the issuance of a yellow alert. Citizens are advised to exercise caution and remain vigilant due to the potential impact of the weather. Furthermore, the weather department has predicted heavy rainfall in many areas from August 3 to August 5.
As per the meteorological department, the districts of Chamba, Kullu, Kangra, Una, Bilaspur, Mandi, and Hamirpur are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall at a few places today, with heavy rainfall expected at one or two locations. In the remaining districts, light rainfall is predicted at many places.

The weather department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in isolated areas and light to moderate rain in all the districts of the state.

73rd Wettest July After 1901
Himachal Pradesh recorded its 73rd-highest rainfall in July since 1901, with the state receiving 250.3 mm of rainfall. According to historical data, the highest rainfall in July was recorded in 1949, with 548.6 mm of precipitation. This year, the state experienced 2% less rainfall than the normal average of 255.9 mm for July, which highlights the variability in monsoon patterns.
