In a shocking incident of domestic violence from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, a woman who was allegedly pushed off the roof by her husband after he threw acid on her died at the PGI hospital in Chandigarh on Wednesday, November 19, at night, police said. The incident took place last Saturday, November 15.
According to a statement issued by the Mandi police, cited by news agency PTI, on Thursday, November 20, the incident took place in the Sain Mohalla of Mandi, where the accused, identified as Nand Lal, threw acid on his wife, identified as Mamta and pushed her off the roof of his house. The neighbours took the victim to the nearby Mandi hospital, from where she was referred to the PGI Chandigarh.
Subsequently, she succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday while undergoing treatment in Chandigarh. Currently, the police are carrying out legal proceedings, and further investigations are underway.
The police have arrested the accused and put him under judicial custody. An FIR has been registered against Nand Lal for an attempt to murder. Now, following the death of his wife, the police have said that he will be further booked for murder.
According to police officials, Nand Lal had a history of assault on Mamta in the past. Mamta had been unwell for some time, and her relatives were not welcome during that time. Before her death, Mamta had raised these points of domestic violence against Nand Lal in a post on social media, the official said.
Aligarh Women Murdered Over Marital Dispute
In a separate incident, a woman living in Laudana, under the jurisdiction of the Jahangirpur police station, a woman living in a rented accomodation was found dead. The crime came to light early Thursday morning when police interrupted an attempt to dispose of the victim's body.
According to the police officials investigating the matter, the woman, identified as Ranjana Chaudhary, had a dispute with her in-laws which is suspected to be the main cause of the murder.
