BJP MP Ravi Shankar Pradesh in a press conference on Monday accused George Soros, a Hungarian-American investor, of being behind an alleged attack on the Indian economy through his purported connection to Hindenburg Research. The BJP leader linked George Soros to the recent Hindenburg report, which claimed that SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch and her husband held stakes in obscure offshore funds linked to the alleged Adani money siphoning scandal.

Ravi Shankar Prasad questioned George Soros's involvement in Hindenburg Research. "Today we want to raise some issues. Whose investment is there in Hindenburg? Do you know this gentleman George Soros who regularly runs propaganda against India... He is the main investor there" Prasad claimed, suggesting that Soros's financial interests may be tied to the negative report that has cast a shadow over India's market regulator, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), and its chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch.

The BJP's allegations against George Soros come in the wake of his previous criticisms of India. George Soros has been a contentious figure in Indian politics, especially after his remarks at the Munich Security Conference in February 2023.

During the conference, George Soros criticised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling him "no democrat" and suggesting that the Adani controversy could lead to a democratic resurgence in India. His comments, delivered in a speech that covered a range of global issues, including climate change and geopolitical tensions, were seen by the BJP as an attempt to meddle in India's internal affairs.
