The Delhi government issued a directive on Wednesday in response to a string of hoax bomb threats directed towards schools in the Delhi-NCR. The directive asked schools to maintain vigilance and make sure that emails received at their official addresses are promptly monitored. Atleast 150 schools in the capital and neighbouring Noida received false bomb threats.
The advisory read, “"In view of the current situation wherein bomb threats were received by a few schools of Delhi in early hours of morning of 01.05.2024, it is advised that School Administrators/Managers/Heads of Government/Government Aided and Unaided Recognised Schools under the Directorate of Education, GNCT Delhi should ensure that emails/messages received on official email id of the school at any time of the day (before, during or after school hours) are checked timely," read the advisory issued by the Directorate of Education.”
The directive also required that any questionable or suspicious content found in the emails be reported right away to the Delhi Police and district education officials so that the proper action could be taken.
"The school authorities should inform parents and concerned law enforcement authorities to initiate appropriate measures regarding safety and security of the students in the event of any impending threats or challenges, well in time," the advisory further read.
The warning was issued after identical email bomb threats were sent to at least 150 schools in the capital and nearby Noida, causing a great deal of anxiety among kids, parents, and school administrators. In reaction to the threats, administrators of multiple schools ordered widespread evacuations and carried out thorough searches of the school grounds.
