A boy was killed while two others were injured after a bomb explosion in West Bengal's Hooghly district on Monday, police said. The incident, which occurred at Pandua in Chinsurah subdivision, claimed the life of a teenage boy who was playing with his friends when the bomb detonated. 

Police said they received the information about the bomb explosion near a pond in Pandua town on Monday. Following the explosion, the injured individuals were rushed to a hospital in Pandua where one of them was pronounced dead while two others were transferred to another medical facility for better treatment.

The incident came a day ahead of the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections on Tuesday in West Bengal. Four constituencies in the state will head to the polls. BJP accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of being involved in the blast.

Local BJP MP Locket Chatterjee claimed it is politics of ‘fear-mongering’ of Mamata Banerjee-led government ahead of senior TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee's campaign in Pandua. TMC national secretary Abhishek Banerjee, who is considered number two in the party, was scheduled to hold a public meeting later in the day for the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 campaign.

Police have launched a probe into the accident and an investigation is underway to ascertain how the bomb was placed in the area.
