Jagran Correspondent | New Delhi: Delhi police arrested Arastu Sikka in connection to the death of his wife Akriti Sutar(28) who was found dead at a residential society in Delhi on Saturday evening. Cops said that after completing the required formalities, a case under the relevant sections of dowry death has been registered at Lodhi Colony Police Station.

The newlywed woman, Akriti Sutar, was found dead under suspicious circumstances on Saturday. Upon investigation, it was found that the 28-year-old woman hosted a party for her colleagues hours before her death. The woman's family claims that their daughter did not commit suicide and appeared to be her usual self during their last phone call. Akruti's body was recovered at a residential society in Lodhi Colony, around 10 km away from her Pusp Vihar home. It is assumed that she had fallen from the third floor of the apartment.

What Did Akruti's Brother Say?

Akruti's brother Amay Sutar claimed that she was mentally strong and would never commit suicide. "We found out about all this last night, between 9:30 and 10:00 pm. When we called the police station, we learned that my sister had met with an accident or some sort of mishap. When we arrived here, we were made to wait for about an hour; we were told she was in the hospital and we had to wait for a call. Later, we were informed that she was no more... she had been suffering for a long time; her husband used to blame her excessively. He would torture her, harbour extreme suspicions, and even physically abuse her... when she told us, we took action, just 2-3 days before this incident occurred..."

The family also alleged that her in-laws have been demanding a Rs 20 lakh dowry and have humiliated Akruti since the marriage.

Akruti married Arastu Sikka on April 24, after being in a relationship for eight years. Akruti worked at a private company as a sales executive, while Arastu is unemployed.

What Happened On Saturday?

At around 6 pm, Akruti called her mother and informed her about the party and that she was going home. Her mother said that she sounded absolutely normal and there were no signs of stress or depression.

According to the deceased's uncle, the family received a call from her husband at around 8 pm. He said that Akruti is missing. "Nearly 90 minutes later, the police informed them that a woman's body had been found at Palika Kunj," he added.
