The Karnataka Police on Saturday arrested eight people in connection with the 'I Love Muhammed' controversy and the violence that ensued in Davangere on September 24.

The police said that four special teams have been formed to track down and nab more individuals. Davanagere city, known for its peaceful atmosphere, turned tense on September 24, following the clashes between two communities after a banner reading 'I Love Muhammad' appeared in the Karl Marx Nagar area.

The allegations of stone pelting against Hindu homes were also made. The local Hindu residents countered the 'I Love Muhammad' posters with 'I Love Mahadev' posters which led to escalation and physical clashes.

Soon after getting the information, the police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. The police initiated the action to identify the miscreants.

The police registered three FIRs against 100 people. Eight people were arrested from both the clashing sides. The Karnataka Police are also monitoring social media to prevent any escalation and provocative content.

Davanagere District Superintendent of Police Uma Prashanth has warned that strict action will be taken against those spreading rumors.

She appealed to the public to approach the police in case of any eventualities, instead of resorting to showdowns or taking the law into their own hands. She further urged citizens to maintain peace in the district
