TMC Crisis: Amid the ongoing internal rift within the Trinamool Congress (TMC), with nearly 19 rebel MPs out of 28, senior party leader Kalyan Banerjee has firmly backed party supremo Mamata Banerjee. He even launched a sharp attack on a rebel faction of parliamentarians led by Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar.

Kalyan Banerjee made it clear that he would stand firmly with Mamata Banerjee despite the growing crisis within the party, stressing that the TMC's primary objective remains taking on the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

According to CNN-News18, he also signalled a reconciliation with TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee after previously calling him "corrupt". Referring to Abhishek, Kalyan Banerjee said, “I have seen Abhishek grow up. He has said that I can tell him things, so it’s okay. Now we have to fight against the NDA."

The development comes days after Abhishek Banerjee responded to Kalyan Banerjee's recent criticism, saying, 'Kalyan Banerjee is older than me. He has the right to express his views. He has seen me from childhood. I won’t speak anything against him."

What happened between Kalyan and Abhishek?

Kalyan Banerjee, considered one of Mamata Banerjee's trusted aides and a key figure within the TMC, had recently turned critical of Abhishek Banerjee, accusing him of damaging the party and humiliating him.

Speaking to reporters, Kalyan Banerjee said, “I will not appear for Abhishek Banerjee in any case because I do not like his arrogant attitude. I have spent 45 years in this profession; all these people have worked with me as juniors. How can he humiliate me?"

“I am senior to him in politics as well. He needs to understand that it is because of him that we lost. He also needs to understand that the party is facing this crisis because of him," he added.

The TMC MP had also reportedly given Mamata Banerjee an ultimatum to choose between him and Abhishek Banerjee, bringing renewed attention to the power struggle within the party.

Meanwhile, the senior MP launched a blistering attack on the rebel parliamentarians who have allegedly formed a separate bloc within the TMC. Questioning their claims of working for development, he asked whether they had remained connected with the people who elected them.

“These people who are forming a block, have they ever gone to their constituencies? Why is Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar not going to her constituency?" he asked.

Kalyan Banerjee asserted that the party would continue its political battle with those who remain loyal to the Trinamool Congress. “All of them are opportunists. We will fight with the people we have," he said.

The TMC, meanwhile, is grappling with a deepening crisis at the parliamentary level. Amid the turmoil, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar has claimed that nearly 19 TMC MPs are willing to join the NDA, raising concerns about a potential split within the party ranks.
