IIT Delhi Student Found Hanging: A 23-year-old student of Indian Institute of Technology Delhi was found hanging in a hostel room on the campus of the prestigious engineering institute, the police informed on Friday. The deceased has been identified as a man hailing from Maharashtra's Nashik. According to the police, he was pursuing MTech and was a final-year student.

"A PCR call was received from IIT Delhi, Dronagiri Hostel wherein it was informed that a 23-year-old boy from Nashik, Maharashtra was found hanging in a room in Dronagiri Hostel, IIT Campus. The deceased was a student in M-Tech final year. Crime team inspection has been done," Delhi Police said in a statement published by news agency ANI.

Further investigation into the matter is underway, the police added. This is the latest case of suspected suicide at IITs across the country. The month spanning December 19, 2023 - January 18, 2024 witnessed three cases of suspected student suicides on the campus of IIT Kanpur. On January 18, a 29-year-old PhD student from Jharkhand's Dumka was found hanging in her hostel room at IIT Kanpur.

The deceased was identified as Priyanka Jaiswal. According to the police, Priyanka's death was prima facie an instance of suicide. Prior to that, on January 11, 31-year-old Vikas Kumar Meena, a final-year MTech student of IIT Kanpur allegedly hanged himself in his hostel room. News reports suggested that he had been "temporarily" prohibited from continuing with his course.
