Visakhapatnam News: A student of IIT-Hyderabad ended his life by drowning himself in the sea in Visakhapatnam on July 19. His body was recovered on Tuesday with the help of fishermen, according to police. The 20-year-old boy, identified as Dhanavath Karthik, died by suicide as he was allegedly depressed over his backlogs, police said today.

CM Trivikram Varma, Visakhapatnam Police Commissioner said, "He could not concentrate on his studies and came back."

Karthik's body was discovered on the beach on Tuesday morning by Visakhapatnam police, who notified Sangareddy police officials investigating the missing person's case.

During the investigation, it was discovered that the student's cell phone was last spotted on July 19 at Ramakrishna Beach (RK Beach) in Visakhapatnam, and he was seen walking into the danger zone of the beach on CCTV footage.

Sangareddy (rural) inspector of police Sudhir Kumar said, “His parents identified the body. After the post-mortem, the body would be handed over to them.”

According to police, Karthik departed Hyderabad on July 17 after becoming dissatisfied with his inability to overcome examination backlogs.

The IIT-Hyderabad authorities filed a missing complaint on July 19, when Karthik was first found missing from his hostel room on July 17.

It was also found that the student had two backlogs (in two subjects) according to the initial investigation.

The tribal student was a resident of Nalgonda district of Telangana. He was a second-year engineering student the Indian Institute of Technology in Hyderabad (IIT-H).
