Bengaluru: A 36-year-old doctor was arrested on Tuesday for causing a disturbance on an Air India flight from Bengaluru to Surat. She allegedly threatened to crash the plane after the cabin crew objected to her placing luggage in a restricted area near the crew cabin.
The incident caused a two-hour delay and triggered a security scare. The accused, identified as Vyas Hiral Mohanbhai from Shivanahalli near Yelahanka, was traveling alone on Air India Flight IX2749 with two pieces of baggage, according to the TOI report.

According to police, the Ayurvedic doctor bypassed the check-in counter, insisting on carrying both bags onboard. The situation escalated when Mohanbhai boarded the flight, placed one bag near the crew cabin, and took the other to her seat, 20F.
When the cabin crew asked Mohanbhai to place her bag in the overhead compartment near her seat, she refused and insisted the crew keep it with them. Despite repeated requests from both the crew and the captain, she refused to comply and began verbally abusing the staff.
According to the TOI report, the situation escalated further as fellow passengers attempted to intervene, but she reportedly shouted at them as well. At one point, she allegedly threatened to crash the flight if the crew moved her baggage.
As the situation spiraled out of control, the captain alerted security and called CISF personnel, who boarded the aircraft and offloaded Mohanbhai. The incident occurred between 2:45 PM and 5:30 PM, according to a complaint filed by Agnimitra Bahinipati, associate manager of security at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA).
Police reported that Mohanbhai's disruptive behavior continued even after being taken to the KIA police station, where she allegedly abused and manhandled officers, further escalating the disturbance.
“This was the first time we heard such abusive language in the station,” a senior officer claimed, according to the TOI report.
Mohanbhai’s husband, who works at an educational institution in the city and is originally from Odisha, appeared before the police and informed them that she had stopped practising medicine and was traveling to Gujarat to visit her family. He reportedly told authorities that she had caused disturbances in public spaces in the past. Police are currently verifying her background and investigating any prior incidents.
