Weather Update: The Southwest Monsoon has advanced into Karnataka and is on track to reach Mumbai by June 10 to 15. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that current weather conditions are favourable for the further advance of the monsoon.

Kerala, Karnataka Among States To See Heavy Rainfall

The weather office has forecast widespread rainfall across Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Lakshadweep over the next two to three days. Kerala, where the monsoon arrived on June 4, is likely to experience very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph.

Several parts of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and the northeastern state are expected to experience steady rainfall through the rest of the week.

Thunderstorm Likely In Central And East India

While monsoon activity has intensified across the south and parts of northwest India, central and east India are expected to experience thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds over the next 24 hours.

According to the latest forecast, several states, including Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand, are likely to witness intermittent rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph. In some places, wind speeds could reach 70 kmph or more.

Heavy Rainfall In Kerala, Tamil Nadu On June 7

The weather office stated that current weather conditions are favourable for the southwest monsoon to advance further over more parts of the Arabian Sea, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana by June 7.

- Under its influence, Kerala is likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next few days, while parts of coastal and interior Karnataka, along with Tamil Nadu, are expected to experience heavy rainfall.

- Additionally, the weather system is set to bring scattered to fairly widespread rainfall over Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and the northeastern states.

- The weather office has warned that rainfall activity is expected to intensify from June 9 to 11, bringing heavy to very heavy downpours to parts of the west coast, including Kerala and Karnataka.
