Weather Update: The monsoon on Friday arrived in parts of Goa after a delay of about three days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed. The weather department has issued a 'Red Alert' for rainfall in several districts of Kerala for the next 24 hours. The district administration of Wayanad and Kasaragod has directed the schools and other educational institutes to remain closed on Saturday. The residents have been advised to follow the guidelines and plan their days accordingly.
As per the weather department, the monsoon is expected to reach Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, and parts of Bengal over the next three days. It further stated that it could reach Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha in the next eight to 10 days. The IMD stated that several states, including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Jammu & Kashmir witnessed rainfall on Friday.
The fresh rainfall, especially in the northern states, has reduced the temperature by two to four degrees Celsius, providing much-needed relief from the scorching heat. Earlier on Friday, heavy rainfall in Kerala caused waterlogging in several regions, leading to inconveniences to the residents. The IMD has issued an orange alert for eight districts in the state, with forecasts of storms accompanying the rain.
As per the weather department, the monsoon could reach Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, and Ghaziabad by the last week of June. It further stated that rainfall activity is likely to be observed in some regions of other states, including Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh around the same time.
Apart from Kerala, several regions of other southern states, including Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Telangana are also likely to witness moderate to heavy rainfall in the upcoming days. The weather department has advised the fishermen to limit their outings and financial activities during the rainfall to avoid inconveniences.
