Union Home Minister Amit Shah made remarks criticising the INDIA bloc during his visit to Chandigarh on Sunday. He stated that the INDIA bloc should prepare to sit in the opposition after the 2029 Lok Sabha elections as well, as the NDA alliance led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will emerge victorious again. Shah said the BJP has won more seats in recent elections than the Congress party did in three previous elections.

The Union home minister accused the opposition of wanting to create instability and claimed that not only will the current government complete its term, but the next government will also be formed by the NDA.

"INDIA bloc should prepare itself to sit in the opposition in 2029 as well. I assure you that let the opposition do whatever it wants to do, in 2029 NDA will come, and Modi ji will come. They (the opposition) do not know that BJP has won more seats in this election than the number of seats Congress got in three elections," he said as quoted by news agency ANI.

Regarding the Nyay Setu water supply project being inaugurated, Shah stressed the importance of providing clean, 24/7 water access to the people. He noted that the Modi government's focus on smart cities has led to over Rs 1 lakh crore being spent in Chandigarh, which was the first city on this list. Shah stated that the mission to provide clean drinking water to 74 per cent of households nationwide has been completed, leading to a significant reduction in water-borne diseases.

"This project is spread over about 125 acres. Ever since Modi ji became the Prime Minister, the focus has been on smart cities and Chandigarh was first on this list. So far Rs one lakh crore has been spent. The mission of providing clean drinking water to 74 per cent of the households in the country has been completed and water-borne diseases have reduced significantly. The work of providing clean water to every household in the country will be completed before the end of PM Modi's third term," he added.
