India-Pakistan News: Drone attacks near Srinagar airport and south Kashmir's Awantipora air base were thwarted late on Friday, said officials, as reported by news agency PTI. Suspected drone attacks were reported near the aiport after blast-like sounds were heard.

Officials have deployed countermeasures to neutralise the drone attack near the Srinagar airport, reported PTI.

Pakistani drones were sighted in Jammu, Samba and Pathankot tonight, May 9. According to PTI, the Indian military is engaging them, said military officials. "Drones have been sighted in Jammu, Samba and Pathankot. They are being engaged," an official said.

Following the suspected drone sightings, a blackout has been imposed in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar.

In Srinagar, mosque loudspeakers were utilised to inform people to turn off their lights as a precaution. Explosions were reported near the Awantipora air base in south Kashmir.

The attempted strike occurred a day after India successfully prevented Pakistani military attempts to target Indian military sites using drones and missiles.

Drones were also spotted in north Kashmir's Baramulla area, officials said, adding that countermeasures had been implemented.

Civilian flight operations at Srinagar International Airport have been prohibited until midnight of May 15 due to ongoing India-Pakistan tensions.

“Please note that Srinagar Airport is closed up to 2359 hours of 14.05.2025 for flight operations,” an official of the Airports Authority of India said.
