India on Friday declined to comment on any potential request from Bangladesh for the extradition of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and called the deportation a hypothetical issue. However, India did acknowledge that progress on development projects has been halted due to the ongoing unrest in the neighbouring country.

When asked about the possibility of Bangladesh's interim government requesting Sheikh Hasina's extradition, External Affairs Ministry (EAM) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal referred to it as a "hypothetical issue." He added, "As previously mentioned, the former prime minister of Bangladesh came to India on short notice for safety reasons. We have no additional comments on the matter."

“Also, to answering your question, you know, I think what you are asking lies in the realm of hypothetical issues. So that is where we are on the issue that you raised,” said Jaiswal.

'Factually Incorrect and Misleading': India Slams CNN Report For Blaming India For Bangladesh Floods:

He also dismissed recent claims by CNN that the floods in Bangladesh's eastern districts were caused by water released from the Dumbur Dam in Tripura. "We have reviewed the CNN report on the flooding in Bangladesh. Its narrative is misleading and implies that India is somehow responsible for the floods."

"This is factually incorrect and overlooks the information provided in the press releases issued by the Government of India, which clarify the situation. Additionally, it ignores the fact that we regularly and promptly exchange data and critical information between the two countries through established joint mechanisms for water resource management."

Earlier this month, Sheikh Hasina was removed from power by violent mobs that threatened her safety, following weeks of intense protests against government job quotas.

Fearing for her life, she fled to New Delhi via a military helicopter. Sheikh Hasina is currently staying in a secure location in India, but her future remains uncertain.

According to government sources, Sheikh Hasina holds no passport other than the diplomatic one, which has now been revoked, as reported by The Daily Star newspaper.
