India's First Bullet Train Section Between Surat And Bilimora To Open In 2027: Ashwini Vaishnaw

India's first-ever bullet train will open its inaugural section between Surat and Bilmora in 2027, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav announced on Saturday. Operating on the 508-kilometre Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor, the project utilises Japanese Shinkansen technology to achieve maximum speeds of up to 320 kmph.

"In 2027, we will open the first section of the bullet train between Surat and Bilimora on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route. After that the centre will complete rail construction from Vapi to Surat, then Vapi to Ahmedabad, following Ahmedabad to Thane, and Ahmedabad to Mumbai."

Sharing an X post, the Ministry of Railways announced the phased opening of India's first bullet train corridor starting 2027, with the Surat-Bilimora section as the initial 50 km segment on the 508 km Mumbai-Ahmedabad route.

The Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the first project between Pune and Hyderabad will reduce the travel time to two hours; the travel time from Hyderabad to Mumbai will be reduced to 2 hours 50 minutes; the journey from Hyderabad to Amravati will be reduced to 1 hour 10 minutes; the journey from Hyderabad to Chennai will be reduced to 3 hours; and the journey time from Hyderabad to Bengaluru will be reduced to 2 hours 35 minutes.

A Game Changer For Hyderabad

"With the introduction of three key bullet train corridors, Hyderabad will soon emerge into a transport hub. Prime Minister Narendra Modi allocated Rs 5,400 crore for the project. It will bring revolutionary changes to Telangana," said the Union Minister.

"Pune to Hyderabad, Hyderabad to Chennai and Hyderabad to Bengaluru, these routes will prove to be a big game-changer for the entire region. Hyderabad will become a high-speed hub. The project will lead to immense growth, and the economies of the entire region will be completely interconnected," the minister said.

He said, In this way, Hyderabad will get three bullet train corridors from PM Modi, and this will greatly benefit Telangana.
