Railway News:  With the festive season around the corner, Indian Railways is preparing to manage the increased passenger traffic by introducing 150 special trains across major routes. A total of 150 special trains will run over 2,000 trips between September 21 and November 30 to ease congestion during Chhath Puja, Diwali and Dussehera.

Whether it's Delhi to Patna, Mumbai to Chennai or Hyderabad to Gaya, this initiative aims to offer a convenient travel experience to passengers heading home or setting off on holiday.

These special trains will be rolled out on high-demand routes such as Delhi, Patna, Muzaffarpur, Gaya and Darbhanga, easing travel for passengers during the festive season, NDTV reported.

South Central Railway (SCR) - Indian Railways will operate the highest number of special trains among all zones.

- Trains: 48 Special Trains

- Trips: 684 total trips

- Major Stations: Hyderabad, Secunderabad, and Vijayawada

East Central Railway: Indian Railways will run 14 special trains on this route to manage heavy passenger traffic to and from Bihar.

- Train: 14 special trains

- Trips: 588 total trips

- Major Stations: Patna, Gaya, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur

Western Railway:

- Trains: 24 special trains

- Trips: 204 total trips

- Major Stations: Mumbai, Surat, Vadodara

Southern Railway:

- Trains: 10 special trains

- Trips: 66 total trips

- Major Stations: Chennai, Coimbatore, and Madurai

Eastern Railway:

- Trains: 24 special trains

- Trips: 198 total trips

- Major Stations: Kolkata, Sealdah, Howrah

In addition to the major zones, Indian Railways will also operate special trains on the South Eastern Railway (from Ranchi and Tatanagar), North Central Railway (covering Prayagraj and Kanpur), South East Central Railway (Bilaspur and Raipur), and West Central Railway (with key stations at Bhopal and Kota).

An Indian Railways spokesperson stated that the schedule of special trains is being announced by the Railway Board gradually based on passenger demand and resource availability across key zones. However, 2,204 trips have been confirmed; additional services would be introduced as the festive season unfolds.

“We are updating the calendar on a regular basis after studying the demand and supply of train services in key States,” NDTV quoted the spokesperson as saying.

How To Book Your Tickets For Festive Season?

Passengers can avail a complete schedule of the special trains, including timings, routes and stoppages, on the IRCTC official website or at the railway station. The Railway Ministry has advised passengers to book their tickets in advance to get a confirmed reservation and avoid inconvenience.
