IndiGo Crisis: Delhi-Chandigarh Rail Route Affected As Passengers Turn To Trains Amid Flight Cancellations | Check List

The ongoing operational crisis at IndiGo, India's largest domestic airline, has severely paralysed air travel. The disruption peaked on Thursday, December 4, when the airline cancelled over 550 flights in a single day, stranding thousands of passengers at airports for many hours. However, instead of providing relief, the situation is deteriorating for the passengers as the IndiGo flights will be grounded till December 8.  

The effects of the ongoing crisis have now trickled down to the Delhi-Chandigarh rail route. Following IndiGo’s massive disruptions, seats on premium trains like the Vande Bharat and Shatabdi are quickly filling up, exacerbating the problem for travellers.

These trains, which already function at the end of their capacity, are suddenly stretched thin and are under intense pressure from passengers. Currently, it's nearly impossible to get a confirmed ticket on the six premium trains on the Delhi-Chandigarh route, as seats are filling up within minutes, and waiting lists are rapidly rising.

The situation isn't limited to Delhi and Chandigarh. Trains are also running overloaded on the Chandigarh-Delhi route. A detailed official statement from IndiGo regarding the operational crisis is awaited. Meanwhile, reports indicate that flights have been affected due to crew unavailability, technical issues, and scheduling disruptions.
