IndiGo Rs 10,000 Voucher: Indian airline IndiGo will begin compensating passengers affected by widespread flight cancellations earlier this month, starting next week.
IndiGo had previously announced a compensation scheme for passengers severely impacted by flight delays and cancellations on December 3, 4, and 5, 2025. Affected travellers could be eligible for a Rs 10,000 travel voucher. This voucher is being provided in addition to the standard refund for cancellations, in line with the guidelines set by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
The airline is set to start issuing travel vouchers worth Rs 10,000 from December 26 to passengers who were severely affected and stranded at airports for extended periods on December 3, 4, and 5, according to various reports.
These vouchers are in addition to the compensation of Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000, as required under government regulations. The decision was made during a high-level review meeting chaired by Aviation Secretary Samir Sinha. The government has instructed IndiGo to ensure that payments reach all eligible passengers without further delays.
It was decided that payments should begin within a week for passengers who booked directly through IndiGo’s website, as their data is already with the airline.
IndiGo was also directed to gather passenger details from travel agents and online travel agencies to ensure direct payments to affected customers.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has been assigned to oversee the successful distribution of compensation, and the Ministry of Civil Aviation will monitor the process via its Air Seva grievance portal.
While IndiGo has started issuing refunds for cancelled flights, many passengers who booked through Online Travel Agencies (OTAs) have yet to receive compensation, indicating coordination issues between airlines and booking platforms, the reports suggest.
MakeMyTrip has already processed refunds totalling nearly Rs 10 crore, based on directions from the DGCA, even before receiving payments from IndiGo, the report added.
