Indore Metro News: Starting June 18, passengers will begin travelling between the 16 metro stations along the 17-kilometre stretch from Gandhi Nagar station on the Super Corridor to Malviya Nagar Metro Station at Radisson Square in Madhya Pradesh. Residents will have to pay a fare of Rs 80 to cover this distance.

Indore, Bhopal Metro More Expensive Than Delhi, Lucknow Metro

The fares for the Indore and Bhopal Metro are higher than those for the Delhi and Lucknow Metro. For a 15-station journey on the Indore Metro, passengers will have to pay Rs 80.

In the Lucknow Metro, passengers have to pay Rs 50 for covering the same distance between the same stations. If fares are calculated based on distance, then in Indore, those covering a distance of 17 kilometre will have to pay Rs 80. In the Delhi Metro, passengers are covering this distance at half the fare of Indore, that is, Rs 42. Regarding this fare discrepancy, Metro officials said that the fare has already been fixed. The committee that estimates passenger numbers and determines Metro fares will decide on this in the future.

“We have adopted the Lucknow Metro fare model. The Indore Metro's fixed fare has been finalised. In the future, a fare-setting committee will be able to determine fares based on assessments.” said S Krishna Chaitanya, Metro MD.

A team from CEPT University and the Asian Development Bank previously conducted a comparative study of metro and bus passengers in Indore. It revealed that a city bus journey from Radisson to the airport would take a passenger 1-1.5 hours, compared to a 30-minute metro journey. Consequently, the metro will take passengers to their destinations in less time than the city bus, Naidunia reported.

Pay Rs 30 For Bus And Rs 80 For Metro

The city bus management currently operates four city buses from Radisson Square to the intersection near the Gandhi Nagar Metro Station. Travelling this distance by bus currently costs Rs 30, while travelling by metro costs Rs 80.

Preparations are underway to run the metro from Gandhi Nagar Metro Station to Malviya Nagar Metro Station starting June 18, but the metro will also need to be connected to city bus services. Metro officials previously met with city bus management, but the feeder bus routes have not yet been finalised.

If a bus service is run from Radisson Square to Khajrana, connecting to the metro, people will use it more. Feeder buses should also be run from Gandhi Nagar Station to the airport, Gandhi Nagar, Kalani Nagar, and Chhota Bangarda.
