Jagran Correspondent, Indore: After more than a year of anticipation, Indore Metro is set for a major expansion, as commercial operations on the Gandhi Nagar-Radisson Square corridor will begin on June 18, extending services far beyond the currently operational Super Corridor stretch.

The announcement was made following a review meeting of the Indore and Bhopal Metro projects chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav in Bhopal on Thursday. Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar is expected to flag off the expanded metro service in Indore.

While passengers have been travelling on the 5.9-km Super Corridor section since May 31, 2025. A year later, the June 18 launch will open a nearly 17-km stretch connecting Gandhi Nagar to Radisson Square via Vijay Nagar, substantially increasing the metro's reach and utility.

Authorities have also prioritised the completion of the airport's underground metro station. Once completed, passengers will be able to travel from the Airport to Khajrana Square via metro by June 2028.

Indore Metro Expansion: Current Operational Stations

At present, metro services are available on the 5.9-km Super Priority Corridor, which includes five operational stations:

- Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Terminal (Gandhi Nagar Depot end)
- Maharani Lakshmi Bai (Super Corridor-6)
- Rani Avanti Bai Lodhi (Super Corridor-5)
- Rani Durgavati (Super Corridor-4)
- Veerangana Jhalkari Bai (Super Corridor-3)

Expansion Comes After Multiple Delays

The metro extension to Radisson Square has been delayed several times over the past year. Initially targeted for launch on Dussehra in October 2025, the deadline was later shifted to Diwali and subsequently postponed again to March 2026.

The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) granted approval for commercial operations on March 25. However, with the approval valid for only three months, authorities faced a June 25 deadline to commence services or undergo a fresh inspection process.

To avoid repeating the lengthy approval procedure, officials decided to begin commercial operations on June 18.

"Commercial operations of the metro from Super Corridor to Radisson Square will begin on June 18. Citizens will now have the opportunity to travel to Vijay Nagar and Radisson Square via the metro," said Kailash Vijayvargiya, Urban Development and Housing Minister.
