Indore Metro Update: The Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) on Thursday stated that there is a massive decline in the ridership of Indore Metro within one month of its launch. The authority stated that while 26,803 passengers travelled on the Indore metro on June 1, the first day of its operation, the number massively dropped to only 680 passengers after a month. The MPRCL stated that there is a decline of 97.46 per cent in the ridership after the first 30 days of the city's metro. However, the authority further stated that the ridership is likely to increase in the upcoming months.

While providing details, the MPMRCL stated that almost 25 thousand commuters used the Indore metro in the first few days. However, the ridership significantly reduced in the upcoming weeks due to several reasons, including the end of multiple lucrative discounts.

Earlier last month, MPRCL stated that the metro will provide relief to the residents of several areas by reducing the traffic congestion and by cutting the travel time. Apart from this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had stated that the project will generate new employment opportunities.

"All these projects will enhance facilities in Madhya Pradesh, accelerate development, and create many new employment opportunities," PM Modi had stated. Earlier last month, the MPMRCL had announced that while the residents will enjoy a free ride in the first week, they will get a 75 per cent discount in the second week, and while they will get a 50 per cent discount in the third week, the commuters can enjoy rides with a 25 per cent discount up to the third month.
