Newborns Rat Bite Issue: Madhya Pradesh's Indore reported a heart-wrenching incident, in which two newborns were bitten by rats at a city's premier hospital. The Indian Express reports that two babies at the neonatal intensive care unit at Indore’s premier Maharaja Yeshwant Rao Hospital, the largest hospital in the state, suffered injuries due to rat bites.
The newborns were getting treatment for congenital anomalies (health complications existing since birth) at the neonatal ICU in the hospital. After the incident came to light, the babies were moved to another facility and kept under continuous supervision.

The Indian Express, quoting Medical Superintendent Dr Ashok Yadav, said that he confirmed the incident. Dr Yadav said the incident has come to his notice. The wer were bitten on their fingers, he was quoted as saying. He regretted that the staff should have been alert to the rat issue.
Measures Were Being Taken To Solve The Issue: Hospital
The Medical Superintendent also asserted that measures were being taken to solve the issue of rodent infestation at the hospital. He said the issue has plagued the hospital for several years.

The rat menace in the hospital will be addressed on priority, he said, highlighting that the hospital management ran two rat eradication programmes in the past.
Dr Yadav said the hospital is old and has been facing the rat menace for years. He explained that the hospital building is surrounded by old buildings, which have the same rat issue. During the rains, the rats entered the hospital, he added.
Dr Yadav said even rat catchers were not able to solve the issue. He asserted he hospital will soon undergo a pest eradication programme.
