Iran War 2026: Amid the ongoing war in the Middle East, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday spoke to Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian and condemned the attacks on critical infrastructure in the region. While conveying his greetings on the occasions of Eid and Nowruz, PM Modi asserted that the attacks on these infrastructure has threatened regional stability and the global supply chains. He further reiterated the importance of a smooth movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.

"Spoke with President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian and conveyed Eid and Nowruz greetings. We expressed hope that this festive season brings peace, stability and prosperity to West Asia," PM Modi stated in a post on X.

"Condemned attacks on critical infrastructure in the region, which threaten regional stability and disrupt global supply chains. Reiterated the importance of safeguarding freedom of navigation and ensuring that shipping lanes remain open and secure," he added. "Appreciated Iran’s continued support for the safety and security of Indian nationals in Iran," the prime minister added.

The war between Iran and the joint forces of the US and Israel, that began on February 28 with the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, entered its 22nd day, with no signs of immediate peace in the region. In a major escalation, the Israel and US carried out an airstrike on Iran's Natanz nuclear enrichment facility.

While Tehran confirmed that the attack caused damage to the site, no radioactive leakage was reported. In its retaliation, launched ballistic missiles at the joint US-UK military base at Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean.

The latest call from PM Modi marks second such call in a week as earlier on March 12, the prime minister had expressed concern over the loss of civilian lives, with Pezeshkian.
