The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) imposed a fine upon the service provider for the meal that was served to a couple inside a Vande Bharat train, that had a cockroach in it. The incident took place on June 18, when the couple was travelling from Bhopal to Agra in Vande Bharat.
The couple's nephew shared the incident on social media and demanded action against the vendor. “Today on 18-06-24 my Uncle and Aunt were travelling from Bhopal to Agra in Vande Bharat. They got “COCKROACH” in their food from @IRCTCofficial. Please take strict action against the vendor and make sure this would not happen again @RailMinIndia @ AshwiniVaishnaw,” the user wrote in an X post.

The IRCTC responded to the post. It noted that, “suitable penalty has been imposed on the concerned service provider”.
“Sir, We apologize for the travel experience you had. The matter has been viewed seriously and a suitable penalty has been imposed on the concerned service provider. We have also intensified the production and logistics monitoring,” IRCTC responded to the post.
There have already been instances of cockroaches discovered in food served on Vande Bharat. In February of this year, while traveling from Kamlapati to Jabalpur junction, a passenger named Dr Shubhendu Keshari discovered a dead cockroach in the lunch provided by IRCTC.
A passenger on the Bhopal-Delhi Vande Bharat discovered a cockroach in their lunch, leading the IRCTC to fine a food vendor of Rs 25,000 in July 2023.
