Israeli Embassy 'Blast': Delhi Police has issued the first official statement regarding the purported blast that was reported near the Israeli embassy in Chanakyapuri area on Tuesday, saying that objects with "evidentiary relevance" collected from the incident site have been sent for forensic examination and further probe into the matter is underway.

According to the statement, the police was informed about a "loud sound" by the caller who reported the alleged blast. Senior officers were rushed to the spot taking into consideration the sensitive nature of the location, the police informed. "Today at 5:53 pm, a PCR call was received conveying the information that a loud sound was heard from the back side of the Israel Embassy. Considering the sensitivity of the location and the mention of explosion-type sound, senior officers rushed to the location," Delhi Police said in a statement published by news agency ANI.

"In close follow-up, the dog squad, crime team and BDS team of Delhi Police reached the spot where the alleged sound of the explosion was reported to have been heard. The area was cordoned off and subjected to a thorough search. The experts have examined the spot and lifted exhibits that may have evidentiary relevance, the same are being sent for forensic examination. Further enquiry is in progress," the statement added.

Prior to the statement by Delhi Police, an Israeli diplomat confirmed that a blast indeed took place near the embassy premises. "This evening several minutes after 5, an explosion occurred in close proximity of the Embassy. All our diplomats and workers are safe. Our security teams are working in full cooperation with local Delhi security and they will investigate the matter further," Deputy Ambassador of Israel to India, Ohad Nakash Kaynar, was earlier quoted as saying by ANI.

A letter to Israel's Ambassador to India was found at the site of the purported blast, The Indian Express said in its report. The letter is a typed one and is "abusive" in nature, sources cited in the report informed. Several teams of Delhi Police, including those from the crime unit and the forensics department, and fire service officials were rushed to Chanakyapuri after information about a blast near the Israeli Embassy was received earlier in the day.
