Jaffer Sadiq, a Tamil Nadu-based alleged dealer of narcotics, has been arrested by the NCB on Saturday for allegedly smuggling drugs worth over Rs 2,000 crore out of the country. The Narcotics Control Bureau has termed him the "mastermind and kingpin" of an international drugs trafficking network spread between India, Australia, and New Zealand. Sadiq, a producer of Tamil films, was recently expelled by the ruling DMK from the party. He was the Chennai West deputy organiser of the DMK's NRI wing.

Last month, during a search at a Delhi godown, the federal anti-narcotics agency arrested three people and seized 50 kg of pseudoephedrine, a substance that is used to make drugs. Since then, the NCB has been searching for Sadiq and has raided his Tamil Nadu property.

The team was led to a godown in West Delhi's Basai Darapur, where they found persons packing pseudoephedrine into covers within a consignment of a multigrain food mix. The three arrested accused were identified as Mukesh (34), Mujibur Rahman (26), and Ashok Kumar (33), of Villupuram. According to The Hindu, the trio admitted that during the previous three years, they had shipped 45 consignments of pharmaceuticals overseas totalling 3,500 kg and valued at approximately Rs 2,000 crore on the international market.

The investigation revealed that Sadiq, a 36-year-old Tamil film producer who lives in Chennai. Sadiq was a member of the DMK and active in the real estate industry, but he was expelled from the party after his connections to the drug cartel came to light.
