Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Monday came down heavily on the judiciary over the issue of huge cash discovery at Justice Yashwant Verma's house in Delhi. Veep Dhankhar was speaking at a book launch event in Delhi when questioned no registration of an FIR over the cash discovery.
He said, "We’re confronted with a jarring reality. A Judge’s residence in Lutyen's Delhi had burnt notes and cash. There is no FIR till date."
He went on and said, "We have in the country rule of law, criminal justice system. There can be no occasion whatsoever to delay even for a moment because that is ordainment of law."
He also questioned in-house enquiry in the matter saying that it is not established in the law. Besides, he also raised concern over the probe saying, "I wonder if the panel collected the electronic evidence from people. Everyone thinks it will be washed off, but who were the bigger sharks? Will it fade with time?"
Emphasising on the seriousness of the matter, VP Dhankhar said, "For a week, 1.4 billion people of the country had no clue, imagine how many such incidents may have taken place."
"The rule of law is the very foundation of society. Democracy has to be defined primarily by three aspects: expression, dialogue, and accountability," he added.
Seeking accountability of the judiciary, the Veep said that holding accountability is inescapable for institutions, if India has to nurture democracy.
"The surest way to degenerate an individual or bring down an institution is to keep it away from probe and scrutiny, which means that the individual becomes law unto oneself," he added.
