Digital Desk, Noida: Under the “Senior Citizens’ Digital Safety: Sach ke Sathi” campaign, a seminar was organised in Hyderabad on January 31 (Saturday) to educate senior citizens about ways to protect themselves from online fraud. The programme was held as part of Google’s prestigious Digikavach initiative, in collaboration with Dainik Jagran and Vishvas News.
The event took place at Prasad Labs in Banjara Hills, with the primary objective of spreading awareness among senior citizens about the growing threat of online scams. Designed exclusively for senior citizens, the seminar was made engaging through the use of local language by experts. During the session, speakers highlighted that cybercrime is increasing year after year, with senior citizens increasingly becoming soft targets for cybercriminals.
Addressing the gathering, Vishvas News Deputy Editor Devika Mehta spoke in detail about scams involving phishing links. She explained that cybercriminals constantly adopt new tactics to trap people, often sending fake links through emails, text messages or social media platforms, offering lucrative deals. She cautioned participants against clicking on any such links, as doing so can lead to theft of personal data and significant financial losses.
The programme was also supported by the Dobara organisation. During the session, fact-checker and media literacy trainer Korina educated attendees in the local language about online frauds commonly reported during the festive season. She also shed light on investment scams, job scams and instant loan scams. She explained how cybercriminals exploit festive occasions by sending attractive messages containing phishing links to lure unsuspecting users.
About the Campaign
Under the “Senior Citizens’ Digital Safety: Sach ke Sathi” campaign, teams from Dainik Jagran Digital and Vishvas News are conducting training programmes through seminars and webinars across the country. As part of this initiative, training sessions are being organised in 30 cities across 20 states.
Apart from Haryana, similar programmes are being held in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Punjab, Uttarakhand and other states. The sessions focus on helping people identify online scams and learn effective ways to protect themselves.
Google’s Digikavach initiative aims to raise awareness across India about online fraud and scams, empowering users to stay safe in the digital ecosystem.
